Introduced in 1998, the Fuyin Gong is one of those fascinating oddities from Zildjian’s percussion history. Small in diameter, big in personality and certainly not something you come across every day.

The name Fuyin (福音) is Chinese for “good news” or “glad tidings”, and can also refer to the Gospel. Whether Zildjian specifically intended that meaning remains unclear, but it certainly adds an interesting cultural dimension to this unusual instrument.

Made from B20 bronze, this 15” gong features a distinctive raised rim, heavily hammered surface and traditional rope suspension.

Unlike a conventional cymbal, the Fuyin Gong is designed to hang freely and resonate when struck, producing a rich, complex metallic voice with surprising projection and sustain for its relatively modest size.
