18” Zildjian K Dark Thin Crash [2004]

A beautiful pre-loved Zildjian K Dark Thin Crash from 2004, featuring an interesting and often overlooked detail from Zildjian’s history.

The large striped K logo on the underside is usually associated with the legendary Early American K (EAK) cymbals from the 1980s. However, around 2000–2001, Zildjian briefly revived this classic design as part of a redesign of the American K series.

These early-2000s K cymbals combined the familiar large K logos with distinctive Art Deco-style model lettering, refined lathing and extensive hammering.

Unlike the original EAK cymbals, the revived K logo features a small registered trademark symbol (®). The laser-engraved JD serial code confirms this particular example was manufactured in 2004.

An interesting little chapter in Zildjian history, and a detail that can easily lead to confusion when dating these cymbals!

Musically, this 18” Dark Thin Crash offers the warm, dark and complex character associated with the K series. Its thin construction provides a fast, sensitive response, opening up easily into a broad, rich wash with a smooth, musical decay.
