14” Zildjian K Custom Session Hi-Hat [2013] Steve Gadd

The K Custom Session Hi-Hat was developed by Zildjian together with Steve Gadd, based around the controlled, articulate hi-hat sound he wanted for studio and session work. And if there’s one drummer whose name belongs next to the word session, it’s Gadd.

This isn’t simply another pair of 14” K hats. The combination uses a slightly undersized 13 15/16” top with a 14” bottom. That tiny difference allows air to escape faster between the cymbals, giving these hats their quick response, beautifully defined chick and controlled, musical character.

Dark, crisp and articulate without ever becoming harsh. They sit inside the music rather than on top of it. Very Steve Gadd indeed.

And this particular pair is something else.

For a set from 2013, these are in remarkably clean, near-new condition. Strong original logos, beautifully preserved brilliant finish and hardly a sign of the years that have passed since they left the Zildjian factory. No cracks or keyhole.

The K Custom Session Hi-Hats have been discontinued and are no longer part of Zildjian’s current K Custom line. Complete original pairs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in this condition. Finding a Session pair is one thing. Finding one looking like this is another.

A serious set of hi-hats for the player, the Steve Gadd fan and, increasingly, the collector.
